New tank leaked from the get go.

Richmond Water Heaters - New tank leaked from the get go.

I Bought a new hot water heater and it leaked from the top where the pop off valve is right from the get go. The plumber set the thermostat at 130 and left.

The water was luke warm for several weeks.

When I did get the plumber back he pulled the pipe and it had no pipe tape on it right from the factory. I don't recommend these heaters.

Researching new water heaters

if can find a vendor locally and price is comparable

Original review May 28, 2024

In the summer of 1998 I purchased and installed a Richmond electric water heater. That was 26 years go.

Noticed moisture on the top of the unit under the insulation blanket. Thought that it had developed a leak so started looking for replacement. On closer examination discovered that the leak was from a loose connection on the flex line. Tightened and leak went away.

Replaced the heating elements twice in this time period. Unfortunately the new products on the market won't last anywhere near this time frame according to the reviews.

Not sure if this brand is still available. If can locate give it a try.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

7 years in new home and on failed hot water tank NUMBER 2 with Richmond. These units are pure garbage as I'm seeing multiple consumers with same issues on this forum.

How much fun is it to drag this heavy heap of trash up and down stairs to the basement every couple of years? TONS of fun, where's the CEO to come and help >:[

Pros:
  • Worked good while it lasted
Cons:
  • No warranty support

Preferred solution: Just the replacement part sent and covered under warranty. Manual says it's the pilot replacement.

User's recommendation: I don't know what to recommend. It seems to me they don't want to help. I'm very disappointed with richmond water heaters. I would only recommend looking up customer service reviews first.

I bought a new Richmond in may of 2017 and it didn’t even last 7 years and started leaking right after warranty expired. What a piece of junk? The one before it lasted 34 years!

Failure conveniently off warranty

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Been without hot water for 10 days It worked flawlessly for 2 1/2 years. Until shortly after the full (labor) warranty expired.

The error codes caused the warranty dept.

to send a control box (thermostat) saying it was easy to install. After 4 electrical, 1 mechanical and gas inlet and outlet still no flame. Now the error code indicated the pilot assembly. A blizzard caused a delay for receipt of hat.

Once I removed the old burner I saw the problem.

It was assembled at the factory by a moron.

The piezo spark wire was twisted around the thermopile sans heat shield. This caused the wire insulation to melt off over time and short out, no spark.

Complaint

Richmond Water Heaters - Complaint

The water heater I purchased was manufactured on Feb 16, 2021. It was purchased new in the box from a local retailer a little over a year ago.

The tank started leaking so I called the 800 number as directed by a label on the tank. Due to fact that the last two digits of the serial number was scraped off and I can not provide full number, Richmond will not warrant the tank. The label has all information except the last digits of the serial number. How convenient.

I see there are other complaints for the same thing, number scraped off. Looks to me like Richmond makes sure you cannot use the warranty, if needed.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. The item was purchased at Menards, so they exchanged it for a new one. New one works fine.

bought a richmond water heater, pressure valve leaked once the tank was full. Replaced valve 3 times and it still leaks.

Extremely poor warranty service

Once you buy one of their water heaters, you are on your own. They do not cover damage and they require an extensive amount of proof that you bought the water heater and when you bought it, it is absolutely staggering to go through all the paperwork they require to fulfill the warranty.

And when youre done, all they do is replace the water heater. No labor, no damaged cars by the defective water heater, no, nothing stay away from this company, also known as Rheem, water heaters I would suggest AO Smith.

Installed water heater in summer 2018 and it failed in December 2023. Water leaking from the bottom, tank failure.

Do not buy Richmond with 6 year warranty. Called Richmond and they agreed to replace it under warranty.

Only reason for 2 stars. Not worth the time to install it after 5 years, buy a different brand.
